Tracing paper

Postby beatrice on Tue Sep 15, 2009 2:25 pm

Hi

What do folk use to trace off their multi-sized patterns? I'm looking to buy something on a roll rather than those little squares of tissue paper from the $2 shops.

cheers

Hi,

I use baking paper from the supermarket you have to do a bit of sticking together but it works. My sewing teacher also suggested using the interface Vilene to sew on the back of patterns so they do not fall apart from over use.

I always have a few metres of cheap (non fusible) interfacing in my sewing cupboard. You can lie that over the top of your paper pattern and trace using a biro, and if any alterations need to be made to the pattern it is really easy to mark where that needs to be done. I've found that if a waist needs to be lifted - a hem lengthened etc that it is easy to cut - or make another piece and stitch it onto the pattern.

The other great thing about using interfacing is that is is semi transparent so if you are using a printed fabric you can see where everything sits on your garment piece.

Plus it folds up without horrible creasing and last a lot longer.
